This weekend we went to New York City, a trip we had planned long before we knew about Baby Buck. We left Saturday afternoon and came back Monday afternoon. I know, a quick trip but the timing of such trip can be easily explained.
You see, we went to New York to see the Cowboys game. Specifically, Jason went to New York to see the Cowboys game. No. I know what you’re thinking, we don’t follow the Cowboys to random away games on a regular basis. Jason has a friend who lives in New York and they thought it would be fun to go to the game together. The game was Sunday evening. See? Now it makes sense!
This wasn’t like one of our normal trips. Normally, when we travel not a spare second is wasted. We don’t spend time lounging around in the hotel. We do not take naps. We spend as much time out as we can. But, I am constantly being reminded that I am not in a normal state right now. Baby Buck reminded me of that simple fact when I almost passed out (literally) at dinner on Saturday night. Weak knees. Lightheaded. Dizzy. Seeing stars. Rushing water sound. Profuse sweating. Must sit down NOW. I guess the day of travel was just a little too much for both of us.
After the pass out experience on Saturday night we decided Sunday to sleep in and order room service for breakfast. After breakfast, we finally ventured out and took a walk around Manhattan. Our hotel was in the Meatpacking District and was certainly quite a hike to the more interesting things around town but it was good to get the blood flowing after a morning of lounging.
I bought a book and sat down at a cute little cafe called Friedman’s Lunch. I ordered a burger and a Coke (caffeine! yikes!) and read while I waited on my dinner. The food that came out was…. inconsistent. The fries were overcooked. The pickle was so-so. But the burger! Oh, the burger was TO DIE FOR. Easily the best burger I’ve ever had. After dinner I stopped by a cute little cupcake store called Eleni’s and got a red velvet cupcake to take back to the hotel.
Monday, we had a couple of hours before we needed to leave for the airport so we went back to Friedman’s Lunch for breakfast and spent some time walking around town. After we were finished walking around we checked out of the hotel and were soon on our way back to Dallas.
